Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the Classic Alkaline Pitcher filter last?
2 Months (300 L or 80 GAL).
How do I know when it's time to replace my filter?
Simply register your product to Filter Ease and we'll send you an email and/or text reminder when it's time for a filter replacement. The Classic Alkaline Pitcher also comes with a digital reminder clock to indicate when it's time to replace your filter.
How do I prepare my Classic Alkaline Pitcher before use?
- Wash the pitcher, upper tank and lid by hand with a natural detergent and water (do not use dishwasher). Do not submerge the lid in water as this can damage the electronic countdown clock.
- Rinse your filter by placing it under running water for 3-5 minutes. Shake the filter while tapping the sides to get rid of excess carbon, until the water runs clear.
- Assemble the pitcher by placing the filter into its housing at the bottom of the upper tank. Push the filter to the bottom of the housing until it is firmly wedged in place. Insert the upper tank into the pitcher; then place the lid on top of the pitcher unit.
- Prepare your pitcher by running two upper tanks of water through the pitcher. Discard this water or use it for your plants.
How often should I clean my Classic Alkaline Pitcher?
We recommend a routine cleaning of the pitcher each time you change the filter.
By how much does the Classic Alkaline Pitcher increase the pH of water?
The Classic Alkaline Pitcher increases the pH of water by about 1.5-2 units on the pH scale. Results may vary depending on the source water.
How can I test the pH of my water?
We recommend a liquid pH testing solution, such as the Santevia Water pH Test Kit, or an electronic instrument. Note: you cannot use pH litmus paper to test water. Litmus paper test strips are typically used for mixed liquids such as blood, urine, or saliva but are not very accurate when measuring the pH of plain water. In addition, if the litmus paper is not formulated to check for mineral content (calcium, magnesium, manganese, zinc, etc.) which is what makes the Santevia water alkaline, hence, you will get a "neutral" or non-result. Expected results are a pH increase by about 1.5-2 units on the pH scale. Results may vary depending on the source water.
What are the black flecks in my pitcher and how do I get rid of them?
The particles you see in your pitcher are excess Granulated Activated Carbon (GAC) pieces that have escaped your filter. These are not harmful to consume and do not reduce the functionality of your pitcher filter. They are typically all flushed out in the preparation stage, but it is possible for them to appear in your pitcher during use. To reduce them, please remove your filter from the pitcher and re-rinse the filter under running water. Be sure to shake actively and thoroughly until the water from your filter runs clear. Tip: place a white surface such as a plate in the sink, this will allow you to see the GAC particles better.
